Amy Winehouse Dead: Singer Found Dead At London Home

amy-winehouse-deadTroubled, Grammy-winning singer Amy Winehouse has been found dead in her North London home, Sky News is reporting. The Daily Mail reports that police have confirmed the passing.

In a statement, the London Metropolitan Police said, "Police were called by London Ambulance Service to an address in Camden Square NW1 shortly before 16.05hrs today, Saturday 23 July, following reports of a woman found deceased. On arrival officers found the body of a 27-year-old female who was pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries continue into the circumstances of the death. At this early stage it is being treated as unexplained."

A suspected drug overdose took the life of the singer, Nick Buckley of the Sunday Mirror tweeted.

She's battled drug addiction for years, having most recently checked back into rehabilitation in May.

Winehouse entered treatment in late 2007 for drug problems, including admitted heroin use.

Earlier in the day, Tim Gatt of Sky News tweeted a statement from her manager saying that she was canceling upcoming performances, writing, "Amy Winehouse is withdrawing from all scheduled performances. Everyone involved wishes to do everything they can to help her return to her best and she will be given as long as it takes for this to happen."

She performed in a surprise appearance at the iTunes Festival on July 20th.

Winehouse has had previous near-death experiences, including one her ex-husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, described in detail back in 2009.

"I knelt over her as she kept on fitting. But then suddenly she just passed out and stopped breathing," he told The Sun (via NME). It was the most frightening thing I had ever seen. I felt sure I was watching her die right in front of me. I didn't know what to do or how to save her. I held her to me - and I thought she was dying in my arms. But somehow I managed to open her mouth and breathe air down her throat."

In January, 2010, she pled guilty to assaulting a theater stage manager.

In 2008, after some confusion, a spokesperson for Winehouse confirmed that she had "early signs of what could lead to emphysema."

UPDATE: Sky News Home Affairs Correspondent Mark White reports that sources confirmed that Winehouse died of a drug overdose.

UPDATE II: In a statement to Just Jared, Monte and Avery Lipman, heads of Universal Republic Records, said: “We are deeply saddened at the sudden loss of such a gifted musician, artist and performer. Our prayers go out to Amy’s family, friends and fans at this difficult time.”

UPDATE III: Scotland Yard told RadarOnline.com that an autopsy on Winehouse will be performed on Sunday.

"The postmortem has not been scheduled yet but it is unlikely to take place before tomorrow. In the case of a murder it can be done within hours but this is not the case so tomorrow or even Monday is more likely in these circumstances."

UPDATE IV: Winehouse is one of a curiously high number of prominent artists to pass away at age 27. Here's a list of a number of those stars, including Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison and Janis Joplin.

UPDATE V: Winehouse's spokesman, Chris Goodman, said in a statement (via Buckley): "Everyone who was involved with Amy is shocked and devastated."

UPDATE VI: Tony Bennett, who recorded the classic pop standard "Body And Soul," with Winehouse at Abbey Road Studios in London this past March, released a statement to HuffPost and Spinner:
"Amy Winehouse was an artist of immense proportions and I am deeply saddened to learn of her tragic passing. She was an extraordinary musician with a rare intuition as a vocalist and I am truly devastated that her exceptional talent has come to such an early end. She was a lovely and intelligent person and when we recorded together she gave a soulful and extraordinary performance. I was honored to have the opportunity to sing with her. It had been my sincere hope that she would be able to overcome the issues she was battling and I send my deepest sympathy to her father Mitchell, her entire family and all of those who loved her."

UPDATE VII: Winehouse's father, Mitch, was en route to New York City for a performance when the death was announced; now that he's learned of the news, he's headed back to London, TMZ reports.

UPDATE VIII: The Sunday Mirror will report tomorrow that Winehouse's death was caused by alcohol and the drug ecstasy.

UPDATE IX: TMZ relays a statement from Superintendent Raj Kohli of the Metropolitan police, saying, "Next of kin have been informed, and I can confirm that officers are now satisfied that the deceased is Amy Winehouse... I am aware of reports suggesting this death is the result of a suspected drugs overdose, but I would like to re-emphasize that no post-mortem examination has yet taken place and it would be inappropriate to speculate on the cause of death."

UPDATE X: Perez Hilton reports that insiders told him that drugs were not likely an immediate factor in Winehouse's death, though alcohol may have been.

You have worked long hours on our behalf. You share the same passion for Country music that we do. Paul McCartney 'In Performance at the White House'

http://img2.timeinc.net/ew/dynamic/imgs/100728/Obama-Paul-Mccarteney_320.jpg“I’ve done a lot of things in my life, but never this,” Paul McCartney said on PBS tonight. “This” was traveling to the White House, which he did last month to accept the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. A properly all-star concert was convened to befit the occasion, and while bits and pieces of the event have leaked out on YouTube since then, tonight the whole thing (or most of it) aired as part of PBS’ “In Performance at the White House” series.

The show opened with some stirring words from President Obama. “It’s hard to believe that it’s been nearly half a century since four lads from Liverpool landed on our shores and changed everything overnight,” he reflected. Then it was time for a cavalcade of stars old and young to pay homage to the voluminous back catalog that earned McCartney this honor.

High points were in abundance. Stevie Wonder’s super-tight “We Can Work It Out” featured a mean harmonica solo, while Elvis Costello’s faithfully jaunty “Penny Lane” boasted an even nicer piccolo trumpet solo. Emmylou Harris shone on an acoustic “For No One.” Dave Grohl wore the night’s biggest grin as he tore through “Band on the Run.” Jack White’s tender “Mother Nature’s Son”/”That Would Be Something” medley captured something of McCartney’s starry-eyed charm.

Intermixed with these were some…not quite as highs. I’m not sure anyone other than Sasha and Malia Obama needed to hear the Jonas Brothers’ competent if cutesy “Drive My Car.” (In fairness, McCartney and Wonder were visibly grooving during this performance.) Jerry Seinfeld’s random stand-up routine fell flat as he riffed from Beatles lyrics to stale “marriage, am I right?” shtick. Faith Hill’s “Long and Winding Road” was a bit schmaltzy for my taste.

McCartney himself was wonderful throughout, humble and jocular. Anyone who’s seen him in concert recently can tell you that he’s still all youthful energy at 68, even if his voice sounds a touch rough at the edges here and there. He had a grand old time with songs including “Got to Get You Into My Life,” “Michelle” (for the first lady in the audience), “Ebony & Ivory” with Wonder, “Eleanor Rigby,” and ”Let It Be,” as simply moving as ever. ”I don’t think there could be anything more special than for us to be performing here,” McCartney remarked, right before the all-inclusive “Hey Jude” singalong. “And we’re thinking of making it a regular thing. Lunchtimes, we could come around.” If only!

The Polyamorous Affair Keep Us “Hypnotized”

http://radioexile.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/l_38ffd82a62bc4ac59d891a1c958d10b6-500x280.jpg

LA-based duo, The Polyamorous Affair are gearing up for the release of their latest album, Strange Bedfellows. To celebrate, they’re just handing out mp3s, yo. The first, “Hypnotized,” finds the electro-poppers bending African drums and synth into a bizarre, refreshing and kick-effing-ass dreamscape.

The Polyamorous Affair is a nomadic-by-way-of-Los Angeles duo who weave a rich fantasy world into their own mischievous brand of electronic pop. The duo which formed in Denmark in 2007 is comprised of Eddie Chacon and Sissy Sainte-Marie who currently divide their time between Copenhagen and Berlin. This summer they release their 3rd album, Strange Bedfellows. Widely acclaimed across the board from NME to Dazed Digital to bedroom bloggers, The Polyamorous Affair have become known for their strategic simplicity, chilly beats and warm vibes, all set in some bizarre frame of opulence. Their latest release finds the two conjuring up a strangely seductive electronic hybrid laced with haunting guitars and live percussion that pull you in, spellbound. Their live show is a multi-media experience featuring pioneering Visualist Mr. Cocoon.

Strange Bedfellows, the third release from The Polyamorous Affair finds the duo offering surprisingly few duets, instead each branching into two distinct styles. The album breathes and pulsates with vibrancy and balance. Eddie reconnects with his soul roots and traditional songwriting while Sissy taps into dreams and trails off on mystical disco byways. The alluringly distant front woman is at times angelic (Softer and Softer, The Avenues) and at times possessed by the Harlot of Babylon (Fantasy, Hypnotized), entities she seems to exorcise on the album’s grande finale, Rebel. Eddie floats with mercilessly beauty in flawless falsetto over big swinging beats (Strange, Shadows) and surprises us with some masterful guitar skills he has humbly hidden up his sleeve (Shadows, Swan Song, Rebel).

Currently the the band is in Europe collaborating with directors from each country they visit on videos for Strange Bedfellows.

Jar Of Hearts Songs Popular By Christina Perry

Christina Perry! Many are not aware of this singer. Well this singer cum song writer became popular only when her famous song got the opportunity to be featured in last night on So You Think You Can Dance. On that very day, the song “Jar of Hearts” made a position in the list of the top ten on the pop singles chart of the itunes. The singer is immensely popular and her popularity has increased more so because of this new songs which has captured the imagination of the millions.

Christina Perry mainly became popular because her song was composed on her own and this epic ballad is epic. After getting such a gift from Christina Perry, the audiences are expecting to get much more from her. How her performance is post this album however remains to be seen.

Christina Perry, the twenty three year old musician is a native of Philadelphia and she resides in Los Angeles. It was found that she is the kid sister of the famous former guitarist Nick Perri. She however claims that this fact has never given her any extra advantage.

Though an employee at a cafĂ© in the Beverly Hills, yet “Jar of Hearts” gives an indication that Christina Perry would soon become popular all around the world. This is indeed a beautiful song that she has composed on her own. Apart from the music and the tune, it is also the lyrics of this song that has made its position today. In fact, the lyrics have been the most popular of all.

Though this song was not popular even before few years yet it received popularity when it was featured in So You Think You Can Dance. For such a great and beautiful song, Christina Perry no doubt deserves a lot. This song was actually used by Billy Bell and Kathryn for making a performance in a dance show. This attracted the attention of the song and paved the way for the popularity.

Muerte de Sergio Vega murdered after performance

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_geKpqfkSXkE/TCcFotUb3JI/AAAAAAAABO8/FOpZfYbpOWI/s320/sergio+vega.jpgSergio Vega has been confirmed as dead after hours of speculation that the worst of scenarios may have in fact been true. Sergio Vega El Shaka hailed from Ciudad Obregon in Sonoroa, Mexico who along with his brothers found fame as musicians over twenty years of tirelessly performing. Although they had split briefly recently, they were back together and everything appeared to be back to normal and headed in the direction of more great music and personal triumphs.

Born Jose Sergio Vega Cuamea on 12 September, 1969, Vega moved the U.S. in the 1980’s which is when the musical career of he and his brothers took off when they formed Los Hermanos Vega and signed a deal with Joey records in 1989. Vega and his brothers rose up from the humblest of beginnings and maintained that same humble outlook even when success found them. Those who had the chance to know Sergio Vega all say that no matter how famous he got that he retained an outgoing and engaging personality with the innocence of child that was willing to trust people and full of compassion.

All of the details concerning the death of Sergio Vega have yet to be made public and it may remain that way for a little longer while the investigation is still open, but according to reports from a source close to the case and another close to Vega, this is a senseless case of murder committed on June 27, 2010. What is known is that Vega was on tour and did pass in Sinaloa. It is confirmed that the car he was traveling in was involved in a violent incident. El Universal reports that the incident involved an auto accident in which the occupants of the other vehicle are alleged to have shot Vega 30 times.

Jesus Tirado Camacho who operated the tour Vega was appearing on has provided the same report. It is alleged that earlier in the evening another band performing on the tour with Vega, Grupero, had received threats of violence. If there is any connection is unknown, and there has been no word on the identity of the alleged murderers of Vega or who levied threats against Grupero.

Why specifically this happened to Vega is unknown, he was not known to have been involved in anything that would evoke such violence. The only explanation anyone can come up with is that it could be possible his attackers wanted to take Vega out due to jealousy over his success, or that it could have possibly just been a sad case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Whatever the answers are, none will take away the pain for his loved ones and fans, nor will they bring him back.

To see a decent man cut down in his prime by senseless violence is a travesty. That his killers may disappear into the landscape and escape justice makes this all the worse. All anyone can do now is hope Vega finds peace he was denied in death, that his loved ones carry on keeping him always in their memory, and that the police get off their butts and actually go find his killers.

Anita Baker's Performing National Anthem at Game 4 of the NBA Finals

http://indurics.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/anitabaker610.jpgAnita Baker belted out a rendition of the "Star Spangled Banner" Thursday night before the start of Game 4 of the NBA finals, but the R&B singer fell short of hitting the song's key notes.

The 52-year-old throwback singer started off a little shaky before the performance nosedived as Baker sung, " … And the rocket's red glare."

Things only got worse for Baker as she stumbled through the song's closing, failing to nail the finale.

The social-networking Web site Twitter lit up after the performance as viewers likened her rendition to a dying cat.

"I love her and all," one user tweeted, "But y (sic) does Anita Baker sound like a dying cat singing the Star Spangled Banner!?"

Another user said, "NBA Finals Where Amazingly Terrible National Anthems Happen … I love you Anita Baker but what the hell was that?"

Eventually, "Anita Baker" began trending on Twitter as viewers continued to express their shock at the performance.

Her appearence before the Lakers and Celtics took the court was a far cry from her best known work. Baker won her first Grammy for Best R&B Vocal Performance for a female in 1987 for "Rapture."

The Ohio-born singer went on to win eight Grammys over the course of her career, and she released her last album in 1994 with "Rhythm of Love."

Lee Dewyze Takes On The Boxer - American Idol 2010 (Lyrics)

All eyes were on the top seven tonight as they performed their picks for inspirational week this week on American Idol under the guidance. Lee Dewyze took on The Boxer, a song by Simon and Garfunkel, and his performance is one that will be remembered.

The judges also seemed to be impressed with his performance tonight as well. Simon said his performance was emotional and inspirational, while Kara Dioguardi said he had his moment tonight. Did he though? Is he one you're watching? Did he have your vote tonight on American Idol?

All the talk this season is focused on Crystal Bowersox, but someone has to go up against her in the finale if she makes it there. Could Lee be it?

The Boxer Lyrics

I am just a poor boy, though my story's seldom told
I have squandered my resistance for a pocketful of mumbles, such are promises
All lies and jest, still a man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest (hmmmm....mmmm......)

When I left my home and my family, I was no more than a boy
In the company of strangers.....
In the quiet of the railway station, runnin' scared
Laying low, seeking out the poorer quarters, where the ragged people go
Looking for the places only they would know

(Li la li... li la la la li la li)
(Li la li... li la la la li la li)
(La la la la li...)

Seeking only workman's wages, I come looking for a job, but I get no offers.....
Just a come-on from the whores on Seventh Avenue
I do declare, there were times when I was so lonesome
I took some comfort there (li la la, la, la la)

Now the years are rolling by me, they are rockin' even me
I am older than I once was, and younger than I'll be, that's not unusual
No it isn't strange, after changes upon changes, we are more or less the same
After changes we are more or less the same ...

(Li la li... li la la la li la li)
(Li la li... li la la la li la li)
(La la la la li...)

And I'm laying out my winter clothes, wishing I was gone, goin' home
Where the New York city winters aren't bleedin' me, leadin' me to go home

In the clearing stands a boxer, and a fighter by his trade
And he carries the reminder of every glove that laid him down or cut him
'Til he cried out in his anger and his shame
I am leaving, I am leaving, but the fighter still remains
Yes, he still remains ...

Taiwanese Boy Sings Like Whitney Houston
- I don’t read a lick of Chinese, so it’s hard for me to read about what’s going on, but here’s a young Chinese man who can sing Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” pretty much like it sounds off of Whitney’s own CD.

Lin Yu Chun blew away judges on the Taiwanese singing competition Super Star Avenue with his rousing rendition of Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You.”

The winner of Super Star Avenue takes home $1 million and a chance to release his/her album!

Whitney recently canceled a show due to illness - maybe this guy should fill in for her!

Nice bowl cut, kid!!

Ex-Journey Band Singer Steve Perry Denies Sarah Silverman’s Claims About Racial Slur

Photo: Winter/Getty(Silverman), Pace/FilmMagic(Perry)

In an interview with Playboy set to hit newsstands tomorrow, comedian Sarah Silverman responds to questions about her provocative brand of humor by telling a story about how “the onetime lead singer of a very popular band from the 1980s” came up to her after a show and said, “You’re my favorite comedian. You have the best nigger jokes.” Silverman didn’t outright name Journey Band’s Steve Perry, but she added, “I’ll just say this: After that, I stopped believin’,” a poke at the band’s classic “Don’t Stop Believin’.”

Was she joking? In an interview with Rolling Stone yesterday, Perry took Silverman’s accusation very seriously, adamantly denying he ever used “the n-word” after meeting her backstage at a comedy show. “I’m really shocked. She was so friendly and so nice,” Perry tells RS. “I don’t understand why she would go there, it’s so bizarre. I don’t use that word, are you kidding? That’s so derogatory.” Perry admits he met Silverman on a pair of occasions “a long time ago” after being “amazed at her ability to make people actually laugh at every racial slur and every ethnic group she could possibly come up with,” but insists Silverman’s recollection of their meeting is just another episode concocted by the controversial TV star for comedic effect.

Perry tells RS, “I walked up to her after the show and I said, ‘I can’t believe that somehow you seem to be getting away with all these slurs and the n-word, I just can’t believe how you’re doing this,’ and I looked at my friend and I said, ‘I can’t believe how she’s getting away with this,’ and she looked at me and kind of smiled. It wasn’t like I was condemning her or condoning her, it was just that I can’t believe how somehow creatively she was making everybody in that club of all colors and all ethnic backgrounds laugh. That’s what it was.”

Despite the accusation, Perry still marvels at Silverman’s ability to walk the dangerous line of political correctness with her comedy. “You’ve gotta see her show because she uses every ethnic slur known to man that historically has been very unforgivable,” Perry says. “I’m Portuguese, that’s the only ethnic background she left out, but maybe after this article she’ll come after me now.”

We are the world Lyrics 25 for Haiti (VIDEO)

The “We Are the World: 25 for Haiti” music video has debuted, less than two weeks after a star-studded lineup gathered in Hollywood to record the remake to benefit victims of January’s devastating earthquake in Haiti.

A three-minute version of the video first aired Friday night during NBC’s coverage of the opening ceremonies of the Winter Olympics. It was introduced by Lionel Richie and fellow producer Quincy Jones, who were also behind the original 1985 anthem.

The contemporary version opens with teen sensation Justin Bieber. Other artists featured include Jennifer Hudson, Nicole Scherzinger, Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion, Fergie, Josh Groban, LL Cool J, Nick Jonas, Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Miley Cyrus and Wyclef Jean.

The video, which was directed by Paul Haggis, also includes Janet Jackson singing alongside her late brother, Michael Jackson, who appears via footage taken from the original recording.

Here is the link to the video:

And here are the lyrics:

[Justin Bieber]
There comes a time
When we head a certain call
[Nicole Scherzinger & Jennifer Hudson]
When the world must come together as one
[Jennifer Hudson]
There are people dying
[Jennifer Nettles]
And it’s time to lend a hand to life
The greatest gift of all
[Josh Groban]
We can’t go on
Pretending day by day
[Tony Bennet]
that someone, somehow will soon make a change
[Mary J Blige]
We are all a part of
God’s great big family
And the truth, you know love is all we need

[Chorus]
[Michael Jackson]
We are the world
We are the children
[Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson]
We are the ones who make a brighter day
So let’s start giving
[Barbra Streisand]
There’s a choice we’re making
We’re saving our own lives
It’s true we’ll make a better day
Just you and me

[Miley Cyrus]
Send them your heart
So they’ll know that someone cares
[Enrique Iglesias]
so there cries for help
will not be in vein
[Nicole Scherzinger]
We can’t let them suffer
no we cannot turn away
[Jamie Foxx]
Right now they need a helping hand
[Wyclef Jean]
Nou se mond la
We are the Children
[Adam Levine]
We are the ones who make a brighter day
so lets start giving
[Pink]
There’s a choice we’re making
We’re saving our own lives
[BeBe Winans]
It’s true we’ll make a better day
Just you and me

[Michael Jackson]
When you’re down and out
There seems no hope at all
[Usher]
But if you just believe
There’s no way we can fall
[Celine Dion]
Well, well, well, well, let us realize
That a change can only come
[Fergie]
When we stand together as one

[Chorus - All]
We are the world
We are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day
So let’s start giving
[Nick Jonas]
Got to start giving
[All]
There’s a choice we’re making
We’re saving our own lives
[Toni Braxton]
It’s true we’ll make a better day
Just you and me
[Mary Mary]
We are the world
We are the children
[Tony Bennet]
Its for the children
[Isaac Slade]
We are the ones who make a brighter day
[Toni Braxton]
So lets start giving

[Lil Wayne]
There’s a choice we’re making
We’re saving our own lives
It’s true we’ll make a better day
Just you and me

[Chorus - All]
We are the world
We are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day
So let’s start giving
[Akon]
There’s a choice we’re making
We’re saving our own lives
It’s true we make a better day
Just you and me

[T-Pain]
We are the world
We are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day
So let’s start giving
[Jamie Foxx imitating Ray Charles]
Choice were making
saving our own lives
It’s true we’ll make a better day
Just you and me

[Rap - LL Cool J, Will-I-Am, Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, Swizz Beatz]
We all need somebody that we can lean on
when you wake up look around and see that your dreams gone
when the earth quakes we’ll help you make it through the storm
when the floor breaks a magic carpet to stand on
we are the World united by love so strong
when the radio isn’t on you can hear the songs
a guided light on the dark road your walking on
a sign post to find the dreams you thought was gone
someone to help you move the obstacles you stumbled on
someone to help you rebuild after the rubble’s gone
we are the World connected by a common bond
Love the whole planet sing it along

[Chorus - All]

[Kanye West]
Everyday citizens
everybody pitching in

[Singing - Children & Wyclef Jean]
Nou se mond la
nou se timoun yo

[Will-I-Am]
You and I
You and I
[Kanye West]
Uh, 12 days no water
wishing will to live
[Will-I-Am]
we amplified the love we watching multiply
[Kanye West]
Feeling like the Worlds end
we can make the World win
[Will-I-Am]
Like Katrina, Africa, Indonesia
and now Haiti needs us, the need us, they need us

[Chorus - All]
[Wyclef Jean]
Haiti, Haiti, Ha, Ha, ha, ha, ha
Haiti, Haiti, Ha, Ha, ha, ha, ha
Haiti, Haiti, Ha, Ha, ha, ha, ha

The new song has drawn both praise and criticism. There has been a mixed reaction as some of the lines have been edited and modified. For example

“And their lives will be stronger and free,” “As God has shown us by turning stones to bread” and
“And so we all must lend a helping hand” were completely removed while few others were revised. The song has given rise to serious outrage as the line with the word “God” has been removed.

The artists who have performed the new version are Justin Bieber, Jennifer Hudson, Nicole Scherzinger, Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion, Fergie, Josh Groban, LL Cool J, Nick Jonas, Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Miley Cyrus and Wyclef Jean.

Lionel Richie and fellow producer Quincy Jones were the only artists who were involved in both the new and old versions. In fact they were the ones to introduce the new one.

The song has got a new feel to it with the raps that have been included plus it’s got few of Michael Jackson’s lines punched in from the old song. Janet Jackson would be heard singing a duet with Michael in one particular portions.

SWV (Sisters With Voices) is all set to release a fifth studio album this year, 2010. On June 24, 2008 SWV made a special appearance at the BET Awards 2008 and performed Weak with Alicia Keys. They even sang the chorus of TLC's Waterfalls.

'Pants on the Ground' Larry Platt Joins the Mile High Club

Gen. Larry Platt just took in-flight entertainment to the next level.

Platt's manager tells TMZ Platt busted out an impromptu performance of "Pants on the Ground" during a flight from L.A. to Atlanta this AM -- after passengers recognized him and then begged him to do it.

We're told Platt -- who was on his way back home from The Grammys -- performed the song in the aisle in coach.

Platt was the last person to get off the plane -- because the pilots and flight attendants wanted to meet him.

Stevie Nicks Performs at Grammys with Taylor Swift

taylor swift and stevie nicks.jpgSo after much speculation about the context of Stevie Nicks' recently announced Grammy performance this Sunday night, it is confirmed that Taylor Swift will sing with her. Stevie and Taylor rehearsed "Rhiannon" and "You Belong With Me".

And finally, Friday brought the chance to see Taylor Swift and Stevie Nicks collaborate in one of those moments the Grammys are known for. Swift — who has a very good shot at sweeping this year’s major categories, in my opinion — doesn’t wear her Fleetwood Mac fandom on her sleeve as a songwriter, but it is apparently there, for after running through her current single, “Today Was a Fairytale,” she used her very most dramatic voice to introduce her duet partner:

“And now, my fairytale dream comes true: I get to share a stage with Stevie Nicks.”

The two women’s voices complimented each other nicely on the harmonies of “Rhiannon,” before moving into a more awkward mandolin-fueled hoedown version of “You Belong With Me.” Never thought I’d see Stevie Nicks playing tambourine behind Taylor Swift, but that’s the magic of Music’s Biggest Night.

So, what do you think of this pairing? Purely a marketing strategy or simply another duet in keeping with Grammy tendency to pair legend with up and comer recently? I personally do not dig Taylor Swift's music, but then I'm not a tween anymore. Aside from tapping the commercial appeal of Swift's legions of fans, I find it an odd match. I would much rather heard Stevie duet with Alicia Keys, especially since Alicia shared Fleetwood Mac was a great inspiration for her new album.

Stevie is grown folks music and I think I shall wince a wee bit when I see this duet. But nonetheless it's seriously cool to see her perform on the Grammys, in any case.

Lady Gaga and Elton John Duet

As rumored, Elton John joined Lady Gaga to open the Grammy show with a duet. It featured glitter, ashes, severed limbs and crazy costumes.

Gaga kicked it all off by singing Poker Face with backup dancers surrounding her. One of the dancers then dragged Gaga off the stage, and she was dumped into a "rejected" bin, which promptly belched flames.

Seconds later she appeared covered in ashes with John, who was also covered in ashes. The two then began singing Gaga's Speechless, a few verses of John's Your Song thrown in.
