Concrete are best known for the poignant songwriting and vocals of Johnette Napolitano. The United States alternative rock band was initially active from the early 1980s to 1995, and reunited in 2001.
Napolitano formed the band Dream 6 with guitarist James Mankey in Los Angeles in 1982, releasing an eponymous EP in France on the Happy Hermit label in 1983.
Johnette is currently a resident of Joshua Tree, California. She composes music for films and works as a gallery artist, specializing in working with discarded and reclaimed materials.
She has also recorded as a solo artist, with the albums Sketchbook (2002), Sketchbook 2 (2006), Scarred (2007).
